So very sad!

Today as I read on the news that the North Salt Lake Police Officer that was involved in a car chase and crashed had passed away, it really made me sad. I cried when I read that. You never really think that something like that is going to happen and then when it does, it makes you think really hard. I never worry about Jake when he goes to work, I trust that he listens to the spirit and I know that he works with a great department that watches one another. But when you think about it, every time he leaves for work ... it could be the last time that we get to see him. That is horrible!! He loves his job more then anything, but I don't think we really understand how much our Law Enforcement does for us. We live in a world, even a county where there is so much crime. If I didn't hear stories from Jake I don't think I would realize how truly horrible our county (SLC) is. I feel really safe where we live, however there is crime happening everyday right around me. Just 3 days ago there were at least 3 drive by shootings all within 20 mins of one another, in totally different cities that were all gang related, Jake was called out on the one in his city, how scary . . . . say goodbye so he can go hunt for a bad guy with a gun.

Anyway, I am truly thankful for Law Enforcement, I am thankful that they put their lives on the line each and every day for us, so that we can be more safe. I am thankful for a husband that lives his life how he should so that he can have the spirit with him to guide him in his job.
As I read the comments on KSL about the officer that died, there was a really neat poem .... I think it says a lot so I am going to put it on here as well. Sorry for my rambling, this was just very touching to me. I could not ever imagine getting the phone call or visit telling me that my family had passed away. However I would say that I have never been to a neater funeral then that of law enforcement. A few years ago an officer that Jake worked with Passed away and I was able to go with Jake, it was so neat and something that I will never forget. I know that this will be the same. It is humbling to see all the Brothers in Law Enforcement that attend, and is truly overwhelming! Local and National Police Officers come to honor a hero of there own. I hope that I will be able to go with Jake to this one as well!!

The policeman stood and faced his God,
which must always come to pass.
He hopes his shoes were shining
just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No Lord I guess I ain't.
Because those who carry badges can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough...
And sometimes I've been violent
because the streets are awful tough.

But I never took a penny
that wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked alot of overtime
when the bills just got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm there fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, it needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
but if you don't... i understand."

There was silence all around the throne
where the saints had often trod,
as the policeman waited quietly
for the judgement of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman.
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on heaven's streets.
You've done your time in hell."

Wow, that is a great poem. I thought about Jake all day long on his birthday. Infact, I even said outloud...I need to call Jake. Anyway, I am a crummy sister, but Happy Late Birthday Old Man. 30 years! I am so proud of you. I know that you do the best at everything you try. You are a great example to me and you always have been. Thanks for being the best brother!
